COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Below are various ways Jordynn has been involved within the community, at all different levels. The 9 listed below were chosen based on relationships with the organization as well as the story behind her engagement.

 

Ronald McDonald House

Volunteered in the Meals from the Heart program preparing dinner and other snacks for guest families after a long day at the hospital. Giving them nourishment and strength they need to tackle another day.

 

Special Olympics

Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. For two local events, I assisted with event set-up, record keeping, guest registration, award giving and refereeing.

O.U.R

Communications, fundraising and activism volunteer spreading awareness of human trafficking. Volunteering ranged from hosting local fundraising events to creating a digital fundraising plan on a national scale for 9000+ volunteers.

Honor Flight Rochester

Participating in the Welcome Home ceremonies at the Rochester airport, welcoming home veterans from their mission, as well as writing pen pal letters to veterans to read on their missions (part of the Veteran Letters program).

 

Scott Spino Literacy Foundation

Working one-on-one with elementary school children at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School to help improve literacy skills and establish lasting relationships by bonding through reading and writing. Volunteered in classrooms from kindergarten to fifth grade.

Help Save the Next Girl

Started a campaign to create a new chapter affiliate of Help Save the Next Girl as a student club at Monroe Community College. The mission of the MCC HSTNG was to raise awareness of safety from predatory danger and promote female friendships and empowerment.

For a Day Foundation

Community Outreach Coordinator for 2 years, coordinating hospital program visits to help kids with cancer and other illnesses be the queens and heroes they are. Expanded reach across all of Western New York.

 

Children Awaiting Parents

Served on the events committee and the marketing committee for CAP assisting with planning and logistics for their fundraising events. She joined shortly after creating a matching gift campaign on Facebook for them, which led to a conversation with a CAP board member.

Kiwanis International

A member of Key Club in high school, Circle K in college and a prospective member of parent-organization Kiwanis International. Volunteered throughout the years at nursing homes, churches, schools and other nonprofits doing various activities within the community.
