Connecting people with life-changing missions.

Jordynn Barnhart Sullivan uses her knowledge in communications to help nonprofits successfully share their mission with the world. When combined together, each of her areas of expertise become a powerful force in the industry—bridging the communication gap between charities and the people ready, willing and able to help them. Jordynn has learned to be very resourceful working in the nonprofit sector, with a goal of saving charities as much money as possible to use for program funding. Take a look at her work experience…

Communications & Public Relations

• Within her first year at Volunteers of America (official start day on January 1st, 2020) as communications manager, she secured nearly 40 unique stories in the news—an increase of 200% compared to the previous calendar year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she innovated her media strategy by crafting ‘packages’ for news producers, where she would include b-roll footage, pre-recorded interview snippets, etc. to make stories accessible and easy to air. In 2021, she shared this strategy with more than 120 attendees at the Collaborate Summit as a presenter.

• Drafted and implemented short and long-term mass media campaigns to reach different age groups, lifestyles and geographic markets. One social media campaign in particular was designed to increase recruitment for the organization’s current golf committee. Within 5 days, she increased the size of the committee group by 40%.

• Acted as the agency spokesperson, participating in speaking engagements in the community that helped spread awareness and raise funds for the organization. Engagements range from career fairs to external fundraising events and media interviews.

• Created multi-year plans to rebrand, and formulated internal and external strategic communication plans to effectively publicize nonprofit programs, donation opportunities, special events, and volunteer opportunities—resulting in increased agency support. Within one month she was able to move an organization from the third page on Google to ranking for the top 3 results for priority keywords.

Mass Media

• Expertly crafted media advisories and news releases, one in which resulted in a press conference with the attendance from the 3 major TV news stations in the area, 1 major radio station and 1 major print newspaper. For that particular event, Jordynn also drafted proclamation requests to the government and secured 4 proclamations from local government offices, as well as wrote the CEO’s televised speech and created unique print/digital press kits and releases.

• In addition to press materials, Jordynn has designed countless flyers, logos, brochures, print and digital advertisements, tv commercials, direct mail pieces, program booklets, bus shelter ads, newsletters, stand-up banners, annual reports, annual appeals, awards for honorees, outdoor signs and many other promotional materials. She has been responsible for the entire process from creating copy, to designing, to print production and mailing.

• Managed and created daily dynamic written, graphic, audio and video content for social media, company website(s), and other communication channels. During her first year as a freelancer, she assisted 10 clients with website development, graphic design and public relations.

• Created KPI dashboards based on analytics from Google and social media. Jordynn has helped several nonprofits expand their geographical reach, and has also created numerous campaigns to increase followers and audience reach across New York State.

Fundraising

• Collaborated with supervisors and committees for the planning and implementation of events from major galas and golf tournaments, to smaller community-based walks, and grants up to $1M. Have served as both a staff and non-staff member on various committees like fundraising, communications and event and entertainment.

• Utilized successful fundraising strategies to execute successful special events that generate increased revenue and media attention—such as a gala that raised more than $300,000 and a golf tournament that raised $86,000 ($10,000 more than the previous year).

• Have orchestrated numerous press conferences, golf tournaments, galas, walks, fundraising dinners, raffles, live and silent auctions, donor and volunteer appreciation events, ribbon-cuttings and networking events while simultaneously managing volunteer on-boarding, tracking, placement, recognition and follow-ups.

• Processed charitable gifts, donor acknowledgment letters and various reports through the Raiser's Edge database in conjunction with communications efforts. Other platforms she has experience with are: Luminate, Classy, Mobile Cause, Greater Giving, Auctria, Constant Contact, MailChimp, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, WordPress, Squarespace and Wix.
